PRODUCT TECH SHEETS

W-L Research focuses on eight areas of quality. University studies have shown that WL alfalfa varieties do differ in quality as measured in milk, beef and cash hay production. W-L Research has developed and perfected the highest alfalfa quality by focusing on these eight important areas:
  • High forage yield potential
  • Broad adaptation and superior winterhardiness
  • High leaf-to-stem ratio
  • High relative feed value (RFV)
  • High total digestible nutrients (TDN)
  • High crude protein
  • High digestibility (IVTD)
  • Multiple pest resistance and tolerance to leaf diseases

The following WL alfalfa varieties are designed to meet the needs of growers throughout the major alfalfa-producing areas. All varieties feature proven WL research to deliver higher yields and quality than other varieties for greater milk, beef and hay production per acre.

Higher yields, more milk per acre, greater profitability, increased digestibility.

WL 325HQ outyielded all other varieties tested in selected University of Wisconsin, Ohio State University, Cornell University and Penn State University trials. Unbeatable in digestibility and energy content, WL 325HQ also outperformed other varieties in milk production trials at the University of Wisconsin and Michigan State University. This Group 4 Fall dormancy variety holds its quality longer, presenting an extended window in which to harvest top-quality hay or silage, helping growers avoid weather-related harvest delays and rain-spoiled hay. WL 325HQ also delivers a strong package of insect and disease resistance.

Exceptional resistance to damage caused by potato leafhopper

WL 346LH is a high-yielding, high quality alfalfa that also delivers the best levels of potato leafhopper resistance available today. WL 346LH represents a powerful new management tool for growers in areas prone to high leafhopper pressure, virtually eliminating the need for chemical insect control. An early maturity Group 4 alfalfa, WL 346LH is well-adapted to 3-, 4-, and 5-cut harvest programs. By planting WL 346LH (81% resistance to leafhopper) growers save on insecticide costs and increase harvested yields even under severe infestations of this damaging insect pest.
