W-L Research focuses on
eight areas of quality. University studies have shown that WL alfalfa varieties do differ in
quality as measured in milk, beef and cash hay production. W-L Research has developed and
perfected the highest alfalfa quality by focusing on these eight important areas:
The following WL alfalfa varieties are designed to meet the
needs of growers throughout the major alfalfa-producing areas. All varieties
feature proven WL
research to deliver higher yields and quality than other varieties for greater milk, beef
and hay production per acre. |
Exceptional winterhardiness and outstanding profitability Proven in University and regional tests all across the country, WL 319HQ consistently delivers exceptional yields and outstanding feed value. WL 319HQ also provides producers with the highest level of cold tolerance and winterhardiness available in the W-L line-up today. And when fed to dairy and beef cattle, WL 319HQ beats the competition in head-to-head comparisons for palatability, digestibility and overall profitability.

Widely adaptable, high yield potential across all growing regions WL 327 has been an outstanding yield performer in University trials in 16 states across the major alfalfa-growing areas of the country. Top yields have been produced under three, four and five-cut harvest programs. A group 4 Fall dormancy variety, WL 327 has unsurpassed performance on heavy, poorly drained soils. WL 327's very fast recovery makes it an excellent variety for an intensive harvest management system.

|
Perfect disease resistance protects your yield potential This leafy, dark green, fine-stemmed variety, delivers extremely fast recovery after harvest and dramatically improved stand-life. WL 342 scores a perfect DRI of 30/30, including resistance to aphids and nematodes. The superior palatibility and digestibility produces more milk and beef, providing greater profit per acre. WL 342, an early maturing variety, is an excellent companion to WL 232HQ, WL 324 and WL 325HQ.

Very high yield potential for unsurpassed milk production. An outstanding Group 2 with Fall dormancy yield potential and
excellent in vitro digestibility make WL 232HQ an excellent choice for
growers serious about maximizing milk or beef production and profitability. WL
232HQ is highly resistant to Phytophthora root rot and Aphanomyces
root rot as well as other major diseases and pests with a perfect 30/30 DRI. WL
232HQ also offers successful stand establishment and long-term persistence on
heavy, poorly drained soils. A very winterhardy variety that recovers fast after cutting, WL
232HQ is ideal for the North Central, Midwestern, Northeastern,
and Northwestern areas for hay and haylage. |
|
Higher yields, more milk per acre, greater profitability, increased digestibility. WL 325HQ outyielded all other varieties tested in
selected University of Wisconsin, Ohio State University, Cornell University and Penn State
University trials. Unbeatable in digestibility and energy content, WL 325HQ
also outperformed other varieties in milk production trials at the University of Wisconsin
and Michigan State University. This Group 4 Fall dormancy variety holds its quality
longer, presenting an extended window in which to harvest top-quality hay or silage,
helping growers avoid weather-related harvest delays and rain-spoiled hay. WL
325HQ also delivers a strong package of insect and disease resistance. |
|
High-performance alfalfa for intensive grazing. Specially selected at the University of Georgia for
superior persistence under continuous grazing, this dual-purpose variety features broad,
deep-set crowns and very fast recovery after grazing or cutting. A fine-stemmed, Group 4
Fall dormancy leafy variety that's well- adapted to a range of soil types, WL
326GZ is the ideal choice for Midwestern, Northeastern and Southeastern growers.
Offering superior digestibility and palatability, WL 326GZ delivers a
faster rate of gain and more milk per acre than other alfalfa varieties
bred for grazing. |
|
Exceptional resistance to damage caused by potato leafhopper WL 346LH is a high-yielding, high
quality alfalfa that also delivers the best levels of potato leafhopper
resistance available today. WL 346LH represents a powerful new
management tool for growers in areas prone to high leafhopper pressure,
virtually eliminating the need for chemical insect control. An early
maturity Group 4 alfalfa, WL 346LH is well-adapted to 3-, 4-, and
5-cut harvest programs. By planting WL 346LH (81% resistance to
leafhopper) growers save on insecticide costs and increase harvested
yields even under severe infestations of this damaging insect pest. |

Exceptional yield potential and outstanding winterhardiness Our newest winterhardy HQ (high-quality
selected) alfalfa, WL 357HQ carries on in the great tradition set
by WL 357HQ. Very high yield potential across a wide range of soil
types and outstanding winterhardiness sets WL 357HQ apart from the
competitor. With a winterhardiness rating of 1.6 and a fall dormancy
rating of 4.7, WL 357HQ represents a unique type of alfalfa, able
to maximize productivity in 4- and 5-cut harvest managements across a wide
variety of climates. In University and private trials, WL 357HQ has
consistently delivered greater income per acre for dairy, beef and cash
hay producers |
