| With an unsurpassed focus and
commitment to the industry, WL researchers have achieved many firsts, including the
introduction of in vitro digestibility a more accurate measurement of forage
quality and feed value. WL Research has shown that you can't always
rely on RFV to identify the most nutritious alfalfa variety. For this reason, we have
begun selecting varieties based on actual in vitro digestibility, a
procedure that accurately predicts the true feeding value of an alfalfa
variety. At present, WL is the
only alfalfa breeding company using this highly accurate technique for breeding
high-quality alfalfa varieties.
HQ (High Quality) alfalfa varieties.
When you see "HQ" added to WL alfalfa variety numbers, you know right away it
ranks among the national leaders in alfalfa quality and yields, proven to deliver more
milk and beef per acre than other commercial varieties.
WL researchers have discovered that they could improve both yield
and quality at the same time by maintaining very high selection standards during the
initial breeding process. This stringent selection produced varieties higher in forage
quality and yield compared to unselected parental lines. The results in yields are
significant according to university researchers. Forage quality also improved 3 to
12 percent increases in crude protein and 7 to 10 percent increases in RFV. These are the
hallmarks of WL HQ varieties.
